A delightful Chikaramachi style (Japan Noritake) Thousand Faces Tea for FOUR In very good condition no chips cracks or grazing. This is a very delicate example of late Meiji Period Japanese porcelain, in a rare version of the traditional Thousand Faces pattern.
When viewed closely, what appears to be stripes radiating from the center are actually countless tiny figures lined up one next to the other. Intricately hand painted with great detail, the figures wear robes of different color and design, with a variety of facial expressions. In vibrant colors with gold/ gilt painted detail, which is very reflective.It is a very thin eggshell porcelain, which is transparent when held up to the light. Creamer measures 3 1/2" Tall x 5" Wide from spout to handle. Sugar measures about 3 1/2" Tall x 5 1/2" Wide. The lids of the teapot and sugar have a floral finial.
4 cup: 2" tall x 3 7/8" diam. 5 saucer: 5 1/2 diam.
5 cake plate: 7 1/4 diam. Marked "made in Japan" circa 1930's.
