A nice cup and saucer made by Meissen in the earlier part of the 19th century. The saucer has the mark of the so called Schmierzeit around 1820 while the cup is just a touch later so probably from the in between period when they switched marks. The sauce has a simple gold trim design to it as does the cup but the cup has a really nice shape to it sitting on three claw feet / paws and having an intertwined snake handle both with a touch of gilding to it.
The cup also has the letter M on it which was perfect for me : Both pieces are marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark underneath as shown, a blue 4 under the cup and gilder's marks to both pieces. The saucer is about 1 inch tall and 4.875 inches in diameter and the cup is just a touch over 3 inches tall with a diameter of about 2.625 inches. The saucer is in perfect condition while the cup has a small firing crack in one of the snakes as shown. The inside edge of the cup is a touch rough which indicates that it probably had a lid at some point. If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces.
