This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Meissen in the mid 19th century. It has first quality underglaze crossed swords marks. The saucer has a diameter of 4 3/4 inches.
The cup is 2 inches high and has a diameter of 2 3/4 inches. When the set was being made, each little flower and leaf was fashioned by hand while the porcelain was leather consistency, then attached to the body of the cup and saucer. It was time consuming and difficult work.
Then it was hand painted. You can see tiny buds and winged insects all around. The handle was also made by hand complete with a tiny pink bow. The rims and handle are trimmed with gold. The Post Office requires this.
