Antique late 18-early 19 Century English Coalport, Porcelain Tea Cup and Saucer
Up for sale is a beautiful 18th - early 19th century English porcelain tea cup with saucer made by the English porcelain company Coalport. Depicted on the tea cup is a charming subject; a happy young mother bonding with her child. The two medallions on the cup illustrate this relationship; on one side the child is playing on a wooden model of a horse and on the second medallion, the mother is teaching her child how to write. The saucer also shows a similar story, with a mother putting her child to bed. The cobalt blue background is decorated with richly gilded motifs of grapes, which are traditional representations of wealth and happiness. Also featured in the smaller medallions on both the cup and saucer are detailed paintings of apples, pears, and berries, which represent the sweetness of life. Both the cup and saucer are in excellent condition. There is no damage or restoration. There is a very minor wear to the gold at the center of the saucer due to age. It is possible to use it and enjoy your cup of tea! This set would make a great addition to any porcelain collection, as well as a charming gift to any friend or relative for any occasion such as birthdays and holidays. Height: 6.5 cm (2.6).
