CONDITION: There are some missing gold beads in the gilded decoration. It is so elaborate, you have to look closely to see them. This porcelain chocolate cup and saucer was produced in Germany by the Richard Klemm Dresden Studio in the 1890s. The saucer has a diameter of 4 1/2 inches. The cup is 2 7/8 inches tall with a diameter of 2 inches.
There is a panoramic scene around the cup of children dancing. They are beautifully hand painted, swinging ropes of flowers in the air as they hold hands. Their costumes are 19th century, in brilliant colors.Notice the minute detail of gold dots filling the space around them. The raised gilding on the burgundy red ground it reminiscent of gilding on Royal Vienna.
The rims and handle are trimmed with gold. The height of the cup really shows off the wonderful scene going on around it. The Post Office requires this.
