DESCRIPTION : Here is an antique Hochst porcelain coffee can and saucer. The coffee can hand painted with an oval panel with a blue urn shaped vase having male mask head handles with gilt decoration including a floral swag.
The painted vase is set on a marble shelf and is on a deep chocolat brown ground. The painted panel is surrounded with four gilt branches being over lapped. The main body is painted with sporadic gilt leaves. It has a broken loop shaped handle with a gilt line half way down the back and half gilt lined to each side of the handle. The saucer having the same hand painted decoration and both having a gilt line top rim. Both coffee can and saucer are marked to the base with the blue wheel mark and are impressed with I E possibly for J. The coffee can has a faded gilt painted H H L L???Dates to 1764 to 1790. SIZE : The coffee can measures 6.2 cm high and 6.2 cm in diameter.
The saucer measures 13.1 cm in diameter and 3 cm high. Weighs 261 g before packing.
CONDITION : There are three small firing cracks to the outside rim of saucer, largest shown in picture 11 that are in the making. A small firing crack to saucer inner wall that has been painted over with a gilt leaf sprig as in picture 10.
