Antique Haviland Limoges Demitasse Cup & Saucer, Square, Arabesque, Aesthetic
CONDITION: Excellent, without flaws of any kind. This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in France by Haviland & Co. Limoges between 1876 and 1880. The molded pattern is known as "Arabesque".
The saucer is 4 1/2 inches square and 1 inch deep. The cup is 2 1/2 inches tall and 2 1/4 inches square.
The porcelain has an ivory hue. The square shape of the set is made more interesting in that the gilded corners are "napkin fold". An ornate rococo style swirl begins near the bottom of the handle, cascading down the side of the cup. The swirling plume is painted with white enamel and outlined in black.
This design is repeated on the other side of the cup and on the saucer. It is a wondrous design conceived by creative imagination and skilled Haviland craftsmen. The Post Office requires this.
