CONDITION: Slight wear to gilding on edge of saucer. It has an inscription, partially worn, indicating the year, 1824. The saucer has a diameter of 5 5/8 inches. 2 3/4 inches tall, without the handle, with a diameter of 3 1/4 inches. The cup has a finely detailed scene hand painted on the front.
The sweeping landscape shows a village, tall structures in the background and gardens. The sky is beautifully painted and in the foreground, rocky outcropping and a tree are meticulously painted. There is probably a clue to this location in the inscription on the saucer. Gilding that frames the scene still has remnants of fine chasing. A bird's head is enclosed in the graceful empire handle. This may have been a product of Schlaggenwald, Volkstedt or some other fine factory. A person fluent in German might discover this location in Germany. The Post Office requires this.
