A beaker style cup and saucer made in China during the. Chinese Kangxi period (1661 - 1722). It is definitely a very early piece and possibly earlier than any European porcelain. I bought it because I liked the look and quality of it.
Both pieces are superbly hand painted with a polychrome floral design with a red and blue trim to the edge. The colors are thick enamels and remind me a very much of the Kakiemon style of colors. The cup is handle less made that way! The quality of the set is superb. Even a little bug to the inside bottom which is always a sure sign of quality!
The cup is in great condition with just a very small chip to the top rim that is glazed over and thus from when it was made. It has a tight hard to spot hairline about 1.5 inches long and if you shine a light through it there is an area that is darker and looks like a restoration but it must just be a flaw to the paste as there is zero evidence of a repair job otherwise.
The saucer is damaged as shown. A section of the side has broken into pieces and was reglued and there is a long hairline going into the saucer from that area as shown. The cup is 2.75 inches tall and 3.125 inches in diameter. The saucer is 0.875 inches tall and 5.25 inches in diameter. Both pieces are marked as shown though I don't know the exact maker. Maybe someone out there knows and can help.If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like KPM, Sevres and so on.
