A superb demitasse cup and saucer made by Meissen in the later 19th or early 20th century. Smaller than a full sized version but not tiny so likely a child's cup. The cup is hand painted with a superb Watteau style scene on white ground to the front while the saucer has a floral arrangement on white ground to the center.
The cartouches are surrounded by some really nice fancy gold trim. The rest of the cup & saucer has that deep cobalt blue ground color that looks stunning with more fancy gold trim all over. The outside rim of the saucer and inside rim of the cup also has a gold trim to it as shown as does the foot ring. There is a nice design to the inside bottom of the cup. The handle of the cup has a nice shape to it as well.
The set is in perfect condition. Both pieces are marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark underneath as well as the usual impressed numbers as shown - first choice off course. The saucer is just under 1 inch tall and just under 4.375 inches in diameter.
The cup is 1.875 inches tall and 2.5 inches in diameter. German Germany Blumen Kobalt Blau Szene Szenentasse Scenic. If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces.
