A cup and saucer made by Sevres in 1759. Better known as a Gobelet litron. It is marked with the date letter G and the painter's mark PT for Petit who painted flowers from 1756 until 1806. This means it is one of those pieces that had the original minor decoration cleared with acid and was then re-decorated with this superb green ground color and jewels on gold foil backing.
This was often done in the Limoges area and is known as jeweled porcelain. This must have happened after d1779 when jeweling was introduced at Sevres and was highly sought after! The jewel decoration is stunning and in good shape with some missing pieces which is normal. The gold trim along the top edges is very worn and the ground color in the saucer where the cup sits is worn as well. A firing flaw to the outside saucer rim. Still looks great and it is hard to find these nicely jeweled pieces nowadays! The'jewels' are raised enamel pieces that are attached to little thin pieces of gold and then fired onto the porcelain which makes for an amazing look! The porcelain itself is softpaste porcelain and it has the little hole for hanging in the foot ring. Both pieces are marked with the interlaced double L mark in blue with the date letter G and artist mark PT as shown. The cup is a touch over 2.75 inches tall as well as in diameter and the saucer is 1.625 inches tall and 5.75 inches in diameter.
