Antique 1779 French SEVRES Royal Bourbon Queen Jewel Porcelain Coffee Cup Saucer. Today we are delighted to offer for sale a truly rare and stunning original 18th century Royal Sevres coffee cup and saucer! This precious and noble set is intricately and lavishly crafted and detailed.

The coffee can/cup and saucer are expertly crafted of soft paste French porcelain by Sevres. The Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres is one of the principal European porcelain manufactories.

It is located in Sèvres, Hauts-de-Seine, France. It is the continuation of Vincennes porcelain, founded in 1738, which moved to Sèvres in 1756.

It has been owned by the French crown or government since 1759, and has always maintained the highest standards of quality. Almost immediately, it replaced Meissen porcelain as the standard-setter among European porcelain factories, retaining this position until at least the 19th century. This fabulous set features the Sevres mark on the bottom and the date code "BB" for 1779; the coffee cup is also marked "Marie Lecksinska". The set is ornately hand-painted in a cobalt and gilt neoclassical-inspired Louis XVI design.

Both the cup and saucer features gilt arabesque designs adorned with hand-applied minuscule glass "gemstones" of various pretty colors. The saucer features a center medallion with the Royal House of Bourbon triple Fleur de Lys armorial crowned coat of arms surmounted by a turquoise-bead and gilt border. Queen Marie was the daughter of King Stanisaw LeszczyskiStanislaw I of Poland. Queen Marie served in that role for 42 years from 1725 until her death in 1768, the longest service of any queen of France, and was popular due to her generosity and piety.

This 1779 set was most likely created as a celebratory gift with portraiture of the French Royal family, perhaps to celebrate the Treaty of Aranjuez signed with Spain in 1779. The cup and saucer set exemplify the grandeur and wealth of the Bourbon monarchs. Set presents beautifully and is in excellent antique condition, with very minimal display wear and patina commensurate with age.

There is very light wear to gilding decorations. Some of the applied glass gemstones are missing. Remarkably there are no chips or cracks! This grand and very rare Sevres royal porcelain set will make an outstanding and crowning addition to any fine and well-curated antique porcelain collection. Dimensions of cup: 2-1/2" in height, 3-3/8" in depth, 2-3/8" in diameter Dimensions of saucer: 5-3/8" in diameter, 1-3/8 in height. Item(s) will be professionally packed to prevent damage in transit.
