Antique Meissen Porcelain Hand Painted Demitasse Cups & Saucers
Antique Meissen Porcelain Hand Painted Demitasse Cups & Saucers. Up for sale are two matching pairs of Meissen cups and saucers with hand painted flowers in vibrant colors and gold trims, dated mid-19. Meissen porcelain, over 300 years of existence, is known for high quality and originality till today. The porcelain work was started in Dresden, Germany in 1709 to produce the first European.
Hard-paste porcelain at high temperature. Its crossed-swords logo was introduced in 1720 and evolved during different periods. The two pairs of cups with handles and saucers all feature the same shapes with scalloped rims decorated with gold gilt trims and hand painted flowers in varieties over the white porcelain. The blue under-glaze logos are shown underneath with some numbers at besides.
Notably, the two cups and one saucer have two slashes as quality indicator used between 1852 and 1870 over the Meissen cross-swords marks, whereas another saucer lighter in weight has no slashes but an S below the two crossed-swords. Measures: Dimensions: Cups, 3 ¼ rim diameter x 2 ½ high x 1 3/8 base diameter; Saucers, 5 ¼ rim diameter x 1 3/8 high x 2 5/8 base diameter; Weight : totally, over 1.1 lb (about 0.5 kg). Condition: Very good, with no chips, cracks or noticeable damages, with some mild gilt loss to the edges of the cups and saucers, consistent with age and use.
