MARC SCHOELCHER OLD PARIS PORCELAIN CUP & SAUCER. F R A N C E 1 7 9 8 1 8 3 4 For your consideration an early 19. Century Napoleonic-era cup and saucer designed by Old Paris Porcelain master, Marc Schoelcher. Very recognizable Schoelcher style to include use of black matte background, separation of gold gilt and white which accentuates design outlines, and use of gold on gold which in this case is the lower base where flowers appear etched. Cup and saucer is decorated with neoclassic hand painted gray and white alternating swans and putti, each of which rests atop pink, green and gold gilt cornucopias against a black ground. Gilt trim on the handles, rims and inside of cup. Gold and white separation in bottom of cup. Stylized high handle with a white flower decoration in the center.
This particular pattern has been identified with the Marc Schoelcher mark. This cup and saucer is unmarked. A Superb Example of the FRENCH Decorative Arts!
DATE 1 7 9 8. 1 8 3 4 MEASUREMENTS Cup. Height: 4.25; Length 3.5; Width 3. 75; Width 5.25 CONDITION Cup and saucer are in EXCELLENT condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or paint loss. Gold gilt on cup is 100%.
Gold gilt on saucer is perfect but for accuracy there four minute spots of wear on the inside decorative border (see photo). A truly spectacular near-mint condition cup and saucer!
